• *  The first thing to do is book your venue. Ensure you find out what size area for the band ( we usually ask for 6x4 metres) and if they have any noise restrictions. Also work out where you dance floor will be - this should always be in front of the band.

  • * Shortlist the bands you are looking at and ask them to provide a songlist ( make sure if covers a wide variety of genres required for wedding demographics). You will need to know that the band can provide the right music for all your guests tastes. It is a big family occasion and you want to be certain that all the family will have fun!. A professional band can play jazz instrumentals, acoustic background "chill"music, stings as the bridal party enter the room, funk, disco, dance, pop, and rock etal - that is something for ALL parties representative at a wedding or function.

  • Ask if they play ALL LIVE - ie dont use a sequencer or tape machine for pre-recorded music when they play live. Also ask them if they would be happy to learn a special song played live ( if its not on their setlist - for say the Bridal Waltz) this is not only a reflection of their professionalism - but of their committment to you as the organiser or Bride/Groom.
  • * Ask the band representative if they will provide music in the breaks ( when they are not playing) and you can use there microphones for speeches.

  • * Ask if they will learn a special song for you ( usually the wedding waltz or a final song played live) - this is not only a committment to the couple but an illustration of professionalism you get from High Quality Acts

  • * Ask for a copy of the bands 3rd party liability Certificate of Currency - ALL professional bands usually require this to play in venues in NSW - it additionally is another reflection of the quality of band. High quality bands require 3rd party liability insurance as it is run as a business and all businesses require 3rd party liability ( well real businesses!).

  • * Now have a listen to them on their website - audio and videos - or any other demo they provide. If you can try to see them perform live. However this usually is not possible if a band does many Corporate and Private events ( How would you like a couple showing up at your wedding univited to WATCH THE BAND...? - most bride and grooms for good reason dont agree)  and leaving things too late can mean you miss out as the good bands get booked very early in the piece. Also ask for testimonials! Some bands also provide email/addresses and phone numbers to contact a happy bride!
  •
  • * Organise to meet a representative of the band to talk through the night and logistics. If they dont want to meet then there may be reason for concern...
  • Look at the testimonials and ask if possible to contact one of the people?

  • * You will have to provide meals and drinks ( non-aloholic) to the band  and perhaps accommodate the band if from out of town - put this into your budget. Also ask if the band prices are inclusive or GST or EX GST ( Public Listed companies need to include GST - all others DONT!)

  • * You will also need to give them time to set up (usually one and a half hours max for a 5 piece band) and take down their equipment after the event finishes

Happy wedding!
